German trademark registration protects characters, letters, numbers, graphics, sound, stereo, etc. Trademarks cannot be protected without registration.
Trademark pattern
  The drawings that you wish to protect must be provided at the time of application.
  If the font in the text trademark is not common to the patent office, such as the trademark of graphical design, or the trademark of combination trademark and designated color, four drawings must be provided.
  If color protection is required, the color must be indicated in the application.
Four identical plane drawings shall be submitted for the registration of three-dimensional trademarks. Up to six views (four each) from different angles of the trademark may be required.
