Germany is, after the UK, the second most popular destination for international university students wishing to study in Europe. There are nearly 2.8 million young people enrolled at German universities and colleges in undergraduate and postgraduate programmes. More than 340 thousand of them come from abroad. Students in Germany can choose from more than 300 public and 100 private universities and colleges and more than fifteen thousand study courses. Low tuition fees, plenty of scholarships available to international students and good employment prospects in and outside of Europe for those who graduated from the top German universities make Germany a favourite choice among international students (see the guide: Study at a German University). Yet, good German universities are not hard to find as 44 out of the world’s top 700 universities for 2017/2018 are based in Germany.
